Terms of Service
Last updated: October 27, 2026
What BoxedIn is
These Terms are an agreement between you and BoxedIn LLC ("BoxedIn," "we," "us"). By creating an account, buying a sticker, or sending an alert, you agree to these Terms and to our Community Guidelines and Privacy Policy.
1. What BoxedIn is, and what it is not
- BoxedIn is a technology platform. We provide an app, QR stickers, and a web page that let one person send a private alert to the owner of a vehicle that is blocking them in.
- We pass messages. We don't move cars. We are not a parking enforcement agency, a towing company, a traffic authority, a security service, or a law enforcement agency.
- We don't control drivers. Vehicle owners and the people who scan their stickers are independent individuals, not our employees or agents. We are not responsible for what they do or don't do.
- We are not an emergency service. If anyone is in danger, call 911 first.
What BoxedIn is, and isn't. BoxedIn is a technology company that provides a private messaging service connecting people with the owners of vehicles that block them in. BoxedIn is not a parking enforcement agency, towing company, or emergency service, and does not enforce parking or traffic laws. In an emergency, call 911.
2. Who can use BoxedIn
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- One account per person. You may not create accounts for others or share your login.
- You must give accurate information and keep it current. Your name must be your full legal name exactly as it appears on your ID, including middle names or initials. You can update your email, phone number, and vehicle details in the app. To change your legal name, contact support with a valid ID showing the new name.
- You may only register a vehicle you own, lease, or are authorized to drive. You may be asked to verify this with your vehicle registration. We check it and then delete the image (see our Privacy Policy).
- You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for everything that happens under your account.
3. People who scan without an account
Anyone can scan a BoxedIn sticker and send an alert without an account. By sending an alert, you agree to the Community Guidelines and to the short notice shown on the scan page (see the sign-up consent section).
Stickers, alerts, and safety
4. Stickers
- Each sticker has a unique code linked to one vehicle on your account. Place it inside the windshield or window as instructed, where it can be scanned from outside.
- Don't copy, alter, sell, or move a sticker to a vehicle that isn't registered to it.
- If a sticker is lost, damaged, or stolen, deactivate it in the app right away. Replacements are covered in section 7.
- You are responsible for following any laws about what can be displayed on your vehicle's windows.
5. How alerts work, and what we can't promise
- When someone scans your sticker, we send you a private alert by push notification, and by text message if you've turned that on. If you don't respond, we may send reminders at set intervals.
- Your phone number, name, and plate are never shown to the person who scans. They see only that the alert was sent and, if you choose, a short reply such as "On my way."
- We can't guarantee that an owner will see, respond to, or move their vehicle, or how fast. Alerts depend on phones, networks, carriers, and app settings that we don't control.
- BoxedIn doesn't replace calling the police, 311, or a tow service when that's needed.
6. Safety comes first
- If you feel unsafe, or anyone is threatened or hurt, call 911 first. Then you may contact us.
- Never confront another person over a blocked vehicle. Don't wait by the vehicle to confront the owner, and don't damage, touch, or try to move someone else's vehicle.
- BoxedIn is not involved in anything that happens between people in person. Disputes between users are between those users.
- Report unsafe behavior through the app's safety report, not through general support chat.
Payments
7. Prices
| Item | On our website | In the app | How you pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Setup, one time per account (includes your first sticker and ID verification) | $9.99 one time | $9.99 one time | Card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, through our payment processor |
| Membership, monthly | $3.99 a month | $4.49 a month | Website: our payment processor. App: Apple or Google |
| Membership, yearly | $35.99 a year | $39.99 a year | Website: our payment processor. App: Apple or Google |
| Founding member, yearly (home address in New York City; first 500 members or through 12-31-2026, whichever comes first) | $24.99 a year for 2 years, then $29.99 a year; setup fee waived | $27.99 a year for 2 years, then $33.99 a year; setup fee waived | Website: our payment processor. App: Apple |
| Replacement sticker | First one free every 12 months, then $6.99 | Same | Card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, through our payment processor |
One plan covers up to 2 vehicles. The setup fee includes the first vehicle's sticker; a second vehicle's sticker is $6.99. Founding Members receive a numbered Founding Member badge for as long as they remain members; canceling ends the founding price and the badge. Both vehicles must be registered at the same address. You may add up to 3 household members to your account; alerts for any vehicle on the account go to every household member, and you are responsible for your household members' use of BoxedIn. Each household member must be 18 or older and verify their own ID. Only the account holder can change the plan, payment, stickers, vehicles, or household members; a household member can leave the household at any time. Prices may be shown per week for comparison, but memberships are billed only monthly or yearly, and the amount billed is always shown first.
Prices are in US dollars and don't include sales tax, which is added where required. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice before a price change affects your membership.
8. Automatic renewal
- Memberships renew automatically at the end of each month or year, at the price shown when you signed up, until you cancel.
- We show the price, the renewal period, and how to cancel before you pay, and you must confirm you agree.
- After you sign up, we send a confirmation with the renewal terms and cancellation steps.
- Cancel anytime. If you paid on our website, cancel online in a few taps through Manage membership. If you paid in the app, cancel in your iPhone or Android subscription settings. The Manage membership button takes you to the right place. Canceling stops the next renewal. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Switching from a yearly to a monthly plan takes effect when your paid year ends, and payments already made aren't refunded. Switching from monthly to yearly takes effect right away, with a credit for the unused part of the current month.
- For yearly memberships, we send a reminder before renewal.
9. Refunds
- Memberships bought in the app: refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their refund policies. Memberships bought on our website: no refunds for partial periods; contact support about billing mistakes.
- Sticker orders are final once paid. The only exceptions: a sticker that arrives damaged or doesn't scan, or an order we can't ship within the time we promised (we'll refund it). Contact support within 14 days and we'll replace it for free.
10. Data and text message charges
You are responsible for any data, text message, or phone charges from your carrier for using BoxedIn.
11. Text message alerts
Text alerts are on when you sign up, and you agree to receive automated texts from BoxedIn about your vehicle. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help.
- Being reachable is what you pay for. You must keep at least one way for us to reach you turned on: push notifications, text alerts, or both. Texts are optional as long as push notifications stay on.
- What replying STOP does: it turns off all BoxedIn texts, including backup alerts when someone is blocked in by your vehicle. After that, push notifications are the only way we can reach you. If push is off too, no one can reach you.
- If we can't reach you: when both push and texts are off, the app warns you, and people who scan your sticker see "We can't reach this car's owner right now." until you turn one back on. Your membership keeps running and isn't refunded for that time.
- To turn texts back on, reply START or switch text alerts on in Settings.
Conduct and legal terms
12. Your conduct
You agree to follow the Community Guidelines below. In short: be respectful, send only real alerts, and never use BoxedIn to bother, threaten, or track anyone.
13. Recording
You may record video or audio for your own safety where the law allows, for example with a phone or dashcam. Don't post recordings of other users, their faces, or their plates online to shame or identify them. We may ask for a recording if you report a safety issue.
14. What you may not do
- Send fake, prank, or repeated alerts, or scan a sticker when you aren't actually blocked.
- Use BoxedIn to find, follow, contact, or learn about a person, or to track a vehicle.
- Try to get another user's name, phone number, plate, or location.
- Harass, threaten, or discriminate against anyone.
- Copy, sell, or tamper with stickers or codes, or create fake ones.
- Use bots or scripts, overload our systems, or try to get around security.
- Use BoxedIn for anything illegal.
15. Suspending or closing accounts
We may warn, limit, suspend, or close an account, or deactivate a sticker, if you break these Terms or the Community Guidelines, or if it's needed to protect someone's safety. You can close your account anytime in Settings. Closing your account doesn't cancel an Apple or Google subscription; cancel that in your phone settings.
16. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why. In short: we never sell or share records about you, we never show your contact details to people who scan, and we delete your registration image after checking it.
17. Our name and app
BoxedIn, our logo, the app, and the stickers belong to us. You may use them only to use the service.
18. No warranties
BoxedIn is provided "as is" and "as available." To the extent the law allows, we don't promise it will always work, be error-free, or produce any result, including getting a vehicle moved.
19. Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, including missed appointments, lost wages, parking tickets, towing, or damage between users. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $29.99.
20. If you cause a problem
If a claim is brought against us because you broke these Terms or the law, you agree to cover our reasonable costs from it.
21. Disputes
Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us first at support@boxedinnyc.com, or by mail at BoxedIn LLC, c/o Northwest Registered Agent LLC, 418 Broadway, Ste N, Albany, NY 12207, so we can try to resolve it.
22. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is significant, we'll notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and ask you to agree again in the app.

Community Guidelines
BoxedIn exists so neighbors can solve a blocked car in minutes, without honking, waiting, or fighting. These guidelines apply to everyone: owners, people who scan, and our team.
Be respectful
- Treat the other person as a neighbor having a bad day, not an enemy.
- Keep replies short and polite. No insults, threats, slurs, or sexual comments.
- Don't discriminate against anyone for race, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or any other protected characteristic.
Stay safe
- Call 911 first if you feel unsafe or anyone is threatened or hurt.
- Never confront. Don't wait by the car to argue, block the other car back, or follow anyone.
- Don't touch, damage, mark, or try to move someone else's vehicle.
Send honest alerts
- Scan only when you're actually blocked in.
- One scan is enough. BoxedIn sends reminders for you.
- If you're the owner, move as soon as you safely can, or reply with how long you'll be.
Respect privacy
- Don't use BoxedIn to find out who someone is or where they live.
- Don't post screenshots, plates, faces, or recordings of other users to shame them.
- Keep your own account to yourself. No shared logins, no stickers on cars that aren't yours.
Recording
You can record for your own safety where the law allows. Use it to protect yourself or to support a report, never to embarrass someone online.
Follow the law
Obey parking, traffic, and local laws. BoxedIn never gives anyone permission to double-park or block another vehicle.
Answer your alerts (Good Neighbor rules)
Only alerts you never answer count against you. If you replied, you're in good standing, even if your neighbor forgets to tap "I'm out."
- A missed alert counts only if it reached your phone and you didn't reply within 10 minutes. Alerts that failed to deliver never count.
- 3 missed alerts in 30 days: we send you a friendly warning.
- 5 missed alerts in 45 days: your sticker is paused for 30 days.
- Missed alerts drop off your record after 90 days.
- You can see your own missed alerts in the app and dispute any of them with one tap. A BoxedIn support representative reviews every dispute.
If it keeps happening:
- A 2nd pause within 12 months: your sticker is paused for 90 days, with a last-chance notice.
- A 3rd pause within 12 months: a BoxedIn support representative reviews your account, and it may be closed for good.
Zero tolerance (one strike)
Some things end your use of BoxedIn the first time.
- Threats, harassment, stalking, hate, or using BoxedIn to find or follow someone: your account is suspended right away while a BoxedIn support representative reviews it. If confirmed, the ban is permanent, and we may share the case with law enforcement when the law requires it.
- Fake or prank alerts: 3 confirmed fake alerts block that phone from sending alerts for 30 days. If it happens again, the block is permanent.
- A banned person may not create a new account. Our ID check helps us enforce this.
Every permanent ban is decided by a BoxedIn support representative, never automatically. You can appeal once by contacting support@boxedinnyc.com.
What happens if guidelines are broken
We review reports and may warn, limit, suspend, or close accounts and deactivate stickers. Serious safety issues may be shared with law enforcement when required by law. Repeat fake alerts from the same phone may be blocked.
